It is no one's case that smoking is very injurious to health and everyone knows it. But what people do not know that smoking can have very bad effect on your oral health. Apart from the smokers' breath and smell it can cause lots of other ora-dental problems.
Now I know that people would say that the oral diseases are not because of smoking but they were already present in the mouth. This may be true up to 1 to 2% but tobacco can increase the predisposition of the diseases a lot in the oral cavity and many diseases are because of use of tobacco.
Effects of Smoking and Tobacco :

1. Discoloration of the Teeth : When someone smokes the nicotine in the smoke usually gets deposit in the oral cavity and it causes discoloration of the teeth. It usually deposits brown deposits on teeth which over period of time become jet black, thus destroying one big function of teeth and that is to make you look beautiful.
2. Reduced Saliva : Smoking causes reduced salivary flow and since saliva has many anti cariogenic properties therefore with reduction of flow of saliva, teeth are more susceptible to caries and less auto cleaning. Also if saliva is less then mouth would be drier and would lead to cracks on lips and gums.
3. Hard palate or the palate in upper jaw becomes red and inflamed.
4. Smoking cause reduced blood supply and with reduction of blood supply, the nutrients too are being brought less by the blood so gums get less Vitamin-C, which would make them inflamed and more susceptible to bleeding and delayed healing. Also it can cause loss of teeth.
5. As I mentioned before the breath of smokers is always bad and they always smell of tobacco smoke.
6. Smoking can alter taste and thus the food, they eat feel less tasty and less enjoyable.
7. Smokers have more chances to have oral diseases as smoking cause weakening of immune system so smoking have 6 times more chances to have oral and periodontal diseases. This can cause loss of dental bone and make teeth loose and can cause loss of teeth.
8. The smoking can cause oral cancers like squamous cell carcinoma which can be life threatening. It also causes cancer of gums, tongue and throat.
9. Smoking also cause wrinkles on the face thus making person look more old than the real age.
Now that we what smoking can cause to your oral cavity and also make you look much old than you actually are. Also we would spend countless money treatment of these diseases which are caused by smoking hence all the treatment would go to waste if we keep smoking.
So, those who smoke why don't they get the teeth clean by the dentist and quit smoking and then feel the freshness of the mouth and look good and sexy ..................
